  • Newcastle venue The Cluny have announced details of a fundraising event with all proceeds donated to victims of the recent devastating earthquake in Haiti.   • Alan Ellis, the first person in the UK to be prosecuted for illegal file sharing has been found not guilty of conspiracy to defraud. The verdict was reached at Teesside Crown Court on Friday 15th January.

  • Several North East artists recommended by Generator are preparing to represent the region at a major pop concert at The Sage Gateshead venue. Taking place on 30th January and featuring major artists such as Sugababes and N-Dubz, the Outside-In festival will also offer the emerging acts involved an opportunity to be filmed for Channel 4 as part of the concert.
  • Widely tipped Singer / Songwriter Ellie Goulding has triumphed in the annual BBC Sound of 2010 poll. This is perhaps an unsurprising result, given that every form of media across the industry are now tipping Goulding as the artist most likely to commercially succeed this year.

  • Maximo Park have always done things their own way. So it’s not surprising that, on the heels of their latest release, the remix EP “Twelve”, the band are now turning the very tradition of remixers on its head and inviting other bands, groups and individuals to have their way with their third LP “Quicken the Heart”, be it a cover, a dance floor oriented editor or a completely avant garde rework of a track.
