The 2010 BRIT Award winners were revealed in an event held in central London this week, with Lady Gaga dominating the outcome.Taking place at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre and hosted by comedian Peter Kay, the annual pop music awards celebrated their 30th year of celebrating commercially successful British music.

Widely tipped North East act Detroit Social Club recently announced plans to release a new EP. Entitled ‘Kiss the Sun’; the four-track EP is set for digital and physical release on March 1st and will feature a title track alongside ‘Black & White’, 'Never too late to try' and ‘Thousand Kings’.

Google has shut down several popular new music blogs without warning, deleting years of archived posts and content in the process.The sites, including well-established blogs such as 'Pop Tarts' and ‘To die by your side’ were part of Google’s Blogger and Blogspot services and were apparently shut down due to violation of terms in hosting mp3s and other artist content.

The Liverpool Sound City annual industry event have now opened online applications and are encouraging emerging unsigned artists across the UK to get involved.The event is an internationally established series of music industry conferences, workshops and live shows showcasing new talent and will take place this year from 19th-22nd May at various venues across the City.

North East artists The Futureheads and Frankie and the Heartstrings have been announced to play at the O2 Academy in Newcastle as part of a series of live shows put together by Radio One.The show will take place on Thursday 4th March and is the first in a live programme of ‘In New Music we trust' events within the City, promoted by Radio One. The Courteeners and Chapel Club are also on the bill.

Music streaming site Spotify recently announced that they are in the advanced stages of introducing an artist recommendation feature to the service. This will function in a similar way to music recommendation sites such as Last FM and retail sites like Amazon, using technology that will actively track listening habits and purchases.

Organisers of the annual Great Escape festivalin Brighton have announced the initial line-up of acts for the 2010 event.The artists announced so far include: Delphic (pictured above), Chase And Status, Marina and The Diamonds, Ellie Goulding, Crystal Fighters, Slow Club, Esben And The Witch, Hurts, Coast, The Cheek and Wild Palms.
