So said Captain Beefheart, who died this week in Los Angeles at the age of 69, from complications in relation to multiple sclerosis.An artistic visionary, Don Van Vliet’s legacy has been well documented and I’m personally looking forward to the re-run of programs charting his process and appeal, especially the Anton Corbijn film Some YoYo Stuff.

A report commissioned by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), has revealed that music piracy is on the rise in the UK, with over 1 billion tracks illegally downloaded in the last year.Market Research Company, Harris Interactive discovered that just less than three out of every four tracks downloaded in 2010 were illegitimate, a staggering 1.2 bn in total.

The Music Producers Guild (MPG),is to present an outstanding contribution award to Daniel Miller, founder of UK independent record label Mute.Miller launched Mute in 1978 and built it into one of the most respected Independent labels in the world with a roster featuring Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp.
