The organisers of Record Store Day, the annual event celebrating the culture of independent record shops across the world have now set a date for the 2011 event. Taking place on April 16, the event will once again feature the simultaneous celebration of such outlets with special events and exclusive releases at participating stores across the UK.

MTV UK has announced the launch of ‘MTV Music’, a new dedicated flagship music channel set to debut on Sky in February.The channel will be available on Sky Channel 350 on Sky’s Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) and will feature around the clock music videos, live shows and artist interview shows.MTVN UK & Ireland managing director David Lynn said: "MTV Music is a channel dedicated to highlighting the best music out there across all genres and styles”

In an attempt to tackle piracy and respond to the expectations of new audiences, both Universal and Sony have confirmed that they are to make singles commercially available on the same day that they go to radio. In a move set to shake up traditional release cycles and, presumably marketing strategies and the role of radio pluggers at labels in the process, the two major labels will attempt to account for the attention spans of younger music fans who have grown up to expect an ‘X Factor’ level of immediacy from music.
