  • Despite TV viewing figures hitting the lowest point since 2006, the recent Brit awards have created a dramatic sales increase for some of the artists involved. Adele’s second album ‘21’ retained the number one spot in the week following the Brits whilst her single ‘Someone like you’ climbed 46 places to the top spot following an acoustic rendition of the song at the awards.
  • Following all Brits nominated artists signed to independent labels walking away empty handed this year, the Association of Independent Music (AIM),and Impala have announced details of their own awards celebrating the independent sector.
  • A recent report from Parliament's Business, Innovations And Skills Select Committee has criticised the Government for its lack of support for the creative industries and has called for the creation of a creative industry council.
  • There are serious questions surrounding the new model for subscription based services that Apple have introduced to the app store, with one Executive describing it as “Economically untenable” for music services. As previously reported, Apple recently announced new plans for how they are going to charge subscription based content providers.

  • Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has confirmed that Coldplay are set to headline the Saturday night at the festival this year.
  • Warner Music Group are reportedly asking bidders to submit first offers for the company by the end of this month, meaning that the major could sell up before rivals EMI are put on the market.With interested parties allegedly ranging from Russian investor Leonard Blavatnik to Universal, Sony and independent publishers Imagem, the stakes could be high as the two major music companies hit the market.
  • You may have switched over after five minutes of Take That’s ‘man band’ dancing but that’s why we’re here- to deliver a handy round-up of the winners of last night’s Brit Awards held at the O2 in London. It may not have been what you would call event television since the year that Jarvis waggled his arse at Jacko but on we go.
  • Radiohead have sprung a big surprise on fans and the music industry alike by announcing that they are to release their eighth album this Saturday (19 February). In a release strategy that recalls the short notice ‘honesty box’ download release of their most recent album ‘In Rainbows’ in 2007 the band will release LP ‘The King of Limbs’ digitally this weekend, priced at £6.

  • Activision, the video games publisher behind the Guitar Hero and DJ Hero franchises have announced that both games are to be axed due to disappointing sales.The company released a statement this week saying: "Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing's Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011”.
  • CMU Daily, the organisers of the Great Escape convention this year have announced the first wave of industry speakers, including superstar producer Paul Epworth.
