6Music are celebrating the resurgence of vinyl with a new programme running throughout December that will focus on the vinyl collections of various pop stars.
‘Vinyl Revival’ will see journalist Pete Paphides speak with various musicians about their love of vinyl, including Damon Albarn, Florence Welch and Ryan Adams.
The new show starts on Sunday December 4 from 12-1pm and will be introduced on Lauren Laverne’s programme on Thursday 1. For the first show, Papides will visit Albarn in his studio to discuss the singer’s eclectic vinyl collection, ranging from Adam Ant to a Second World War Oratorio.
Interestingly, the Official Charts Company announced last month that year-to-date vinyl sales were up 40% on 2010 this year so far.
Papides was formerly the chief rock critic at The Times and now writes for The Guardian and Mojo. Throughout the month, he will also be speaking with artists such as Johnny Marr, Seasick Steve and Wild Beasts about what the format means to them and what gems or embarrassments are lurking in their record collections.
