The Association of Independent Music (AIM) has expressed support for a new poster campaign orchestrated to stop the closure of 6Music and the Asian Network.
The dramatic campaign, designed by 38 Degrees have taken out billboards in major cities across the UK in a bid to drive the message home about public support against the closure of the BBC digital stations. Adopting the tone of political activism, the posters declare: “Stop the BBC cuts!” and “Thousands of us are working to oppose cuts to the BBC, including 6Music and the Asian Network.”
Chairman and CEO of AIM, Alison Wenham told trade publication Music Week: “There are so many other groups that are going to be badly affected by the proposal to axe 6Music so we felt it was probably better to join forces to make a general point on behalf of the creative community”.
As previously reported by The Gen, the BBC announced plans to axe the stations earlier in the year, sparking off a huge public campaign which has seen many major names in the music world speak out.
According to figures released recently, 6Music's online audience has increased by a staggering 50% year on year, the biggest rise in al of the BBC’s national stations.
The BBC Trust consultation on the proposed cuts closes on May 25th and you can email them here srconsultation@bbc.co.uk.
