The BBC have joined forces with major commercial radio groups to create The Radio Council, with the broad objective of securing the future of radio in a digital age.
Alongside the BBC, the three leading commercial radio groups Global Radio, Bauer Media and GMG, and the Radio Centre representing the rest of commercial radio will constitute the new partnership.
The council aims to meet every quarter with its chairmanship rotating annually between the BBC and commercial radio
At its recent launch, the The Radio Council has set out three key digital projects:
1) To develop an online live radio player, an open platform that streams all live UK radio in one place.
2) To develop a common user interface and electronic programme guide (EPG) for listeners across all devices – including on-line and mobile phones.
3) To develop a calendar of exclusive digital-only content
