The BRIT awards nominations will be announced this week, with live appearances from Ed Sheeran and Emeli Sandi alongside the launch of a new BRITS app for the iPhone.
In addition to featuring news and running competitions, the app can be used by the public to cast votes in the categories of Best Single, Best Group and Best Breakthrough.
As previously reported, Emeli Sande is the BRIT awards Critics choice for 2012.
James Coughlan of Noise Inc, the company that developed the app, said: “This marks a first for a major music industry Awards programme to embrace the new technology of apps in its voting system, and Noise Inc. is thrilled to be the partner who could make it possible.”
Recently honoured Maggie Crowe OBE, BRITs Event Director, added: “The BRIT Awards with MasterCard is delighted to be able to launch its first ever app. We want to keep in touch with our fans through their iPhones, with apps, and Noise Inc. has helped us make it possible for them to connect directly with The BRITs to vote and keep up to date with all our latest news.”
Radio One’s Greg James, a man whose boundless enthusiasm makes Zane Lowe sound like Morrissey on a particularly bad day, will present the nominations at the Savoy Hotel in London on Thursday (12 January) and the app will also be launched for free on Apple’s store on the same day.
