BRITS 2012: Just a Blur

Posted in News by Generator on Wednesday 22nd of February 2012

Adele won two but got cut off mid-sentence, Coldplay aped Arcade Fire, James Corden resembled a reporter for a regional television station stood in the middle of a busy high street and the KLF unfortunately didn’t show up and set fire to a million pounds (or Olly Murs) - it’s the BRITS 2012.

Outstanding contribution to music winners Blur have also just been announced as the headliners of an Olympic ‘Best of British’ gig, playing alongside New Order and the Specials at London’s Hyde Park on Sunday 18 August. The band played at the end of the awards with a medley of 90’s hits. Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be as someone quite clever once said.

Rounding off an extraordinary year that began at last year’s BRITS, Adele, who earlier this month scooped six Grammys walked away with Best British Female and Best British album, also performing ‘Rolling in the Deep’: easily the best song from second album ‘21’, the best selling UK album of the century so far.

To no-one’s surprise, Ed Sheeran was the other big success story at last night’s awards at The O2 arena in London, walking away with British male solo artist and British breakthrough, with Lana Del Ray and Rihanna (pictured) also taking away awards.

The winners were:

British male solo artist: Ed Sheeran
British female solo artist: Adele
British breakthrough: Ed Sheeran
British group: Coldplay
British single: One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful
British album: Adele – 21
International male solo artist: Bruno Mars
International female solo artist: Rihanna
International group: Foo Fighters
International breakthrough act: Lana Del Rey
Outstanding contribution to music: Blur
Critic's choice: Emeli Sandé
