    BBC Sound Out 2013

    It's that time of year again- you can forget about goodwill to all emerging artists and prepare to scream, shout, argue, agree, have a good moan at the state of pop or simply recline into indifference- The BBC’s Sound of 2013 longlist has been revealed.The list is compiled from votes for three favourite new acts from a total of 213 tastemakers including journalists, DJs and bloggers, with the winner announced in early January next year.
  • Tickets for Glastonbury next year have sold-out in record time, with 140,000 going in 1 hour and 40 minutes after opening yesterday (Sunday October 7) at 9am.
  • In an explosive twist in the story that has dominated international music news over the past couple of months, three members of Russian Punk band Pussy Riot have been found guilty of "hooliganism motivated by religious hatred".
  • Users of rising social media site Pinterest can now ‘pin’ or embed tracks from Soundcloud onto their page in addition to sharing video, but does the site have the potential to be a useful tool for artists?Some artists are already using the site as a kind of digital scrapbook, sharing photographs and other visual artefacts with fans. The potential for content to ‘go viral’ as the now ominous sounding corporate cliché goes is quite similar to Twitter, with other users able to ‘repin’ what you post.
  • “The Beautiful Ones, they hurt you every time” sang Prince on the third track of his seminal soundtrack LP Purple Rain. It seems that Universal are learning that lesson the hard way this week with the news that the famously fractious pop star has exited his publishing deal with the company.Prince manager Kiran Sharma said in a statement: "We are pleased to announce that Prince and Universal have reached a mutual agreement in terminating their long standing publishing deal”.

    The Park get shopped

    Following the release of fourth album ‘The National Health’ this week, Maximo Park are set to break some kind of world record by playing five in-store gigs in one day this Saturday.The band will play at various independent record stores across the North East including Newcastle’s RPM and Stockton’s ‘Sound it Out’, the subject of a recently acclaimed documentary made by Jeanie Finlay.

    On Saturday, Generator served up a musical feast from dub-soul beats to Hyde & Beast at The Great Escape, bringingthe sound of the North East to Brighton Beach.The Genwas on hand to report onGeordies on someone else's Shore, a South Shields songstress on the South Coast, and musical Mackems at Hipster-by-the-Sea.
