  • The Association of Independent Music (AIM), has announced that its Independent Music Awards will return for a third year on September 3rd. The event will take place again at the The Brewery venue in London and will for the first time feature awards for independent track of the year and independent video of the year.

    AIM: Get Connected

    The Association of Independent Music (AIM) has revealed the initial line-up for its Music Connected conference, taking place on April 17 at Glaziers Hall in London. The conference will feature speakers from PIAS, Hospital Records and Eagle Rock Entertainment discussing how to build a successful YouTube Channel.

    Indie label Fierce Panda are joining forces with Document films and launching a Pledge Music campaign for ‘Charade: 20 years of Fierce Panda’, a film documenting the history of the label. They are asking for recollections of how fans first discovered the label that launched the careers of Placebo, Coldplay, Idlewild, Art Brut et al- So, do you remember the furst time?
  • The organisers of Record Store Day have announced that this year will see a 10% reduction in special physical product releases, with BBC 6Music dedicating a day of programming to the celebratory day of independence.

    Bragging rights

    Billy Bragg has re-signed to Indie label Cooking Vinyl, in a new deal that for the first time covers the entire world and will see the songwriter retaining the copyright to the recordings of his forthcoming album.
  • Sky Arts in association with IdeasTap are again offering five emerging artists £30,000 each to fund their work for an entire year and the deadline for submission is Wednesday 19 December. The Sky Arts Ignition: Futures Fund is designed to assist artists with creative practice and will also pair the winners with a mentor from Sky to help you develop your networks, skills and knowledge in the arts and the commercial sector, supported through Sky’s platforms.
  • The IFPI has reported that record companies invested approximately £2.8bn in A&R and marketing last year, in the midst of the global economic downturn - suggesting that labels remain the primary investors in artists.
