Detroit Social Club To Headline Evolution Emerging

Hotly-tipped Newcastle indie-rockers Detroit Social Club have been announced as headliners of Evolution Emerging, 2010's biggest event for emerging North East music which is taking place this year on Saturday 29 May.

Ahead of their debut album Existence, which was co-produced by Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian producer Jim Abbiss, Detroit Social Club will perform at The Cluny in the Ouseburn Valley.

This will serve as a warm up to their packed summer schedule which will see them perform at festivals including Glastonbury, T in the Park, a main stage performance at Isle of Wight Festival and a trip to Japan for the Fuji Rock Festival.

Having supported the likes of Oasis, Primal Scream and Razorlight, Detroit Social Club have attracted a lot of interest for their album and are expected to break through in 2010, making their Evolution Emerging  performance in their hometown a must-see.

This is the second year for Evolution Emerging which was established in 2009 as an opener to the Evolution Weekender on Sunday 30 and Monday 31 May, which features chart-topping acts including Paulo Nutini, Calvin Harris and De La Soul with up-and-coming chart stars including Ellie Goulding and Delphic.

Evolution Emerging aims to bring the best new North East talent to audiences who may uncover their new favourite band packing out local music venues on the road to main stage glory.

In total 25 bands will play in six venues in the Ouseburn Valley accompanied by DJ sets from the likes of Sunderland's Frankie & the Heartstrings. All gigs are free and are all timed to run simultaneously across one evening at The Cluny, Cluny 2, Star & Shadow Cinema, The Tyne, The Tanners and The Cumberland Arms, on Saturday 29 May.

Joe Frankland, Generator's Musician Support Manager said: "It's a real coup to get Detroit Social Club to play a gig like this. Bands like Detroit Social Club know the strength in the region's music scene and the hard work they have put in to make that step on to the national stage can be replicated amongst some of our other acts. It's great and fitting, that this is their last gig before their album is released on Monday 31 and with a host of gigs coming up it's a chance to see one of the best bands to come out of the North East in recent years before they hit the big time".
