The organisers of Newcastle / Gateshead’s Evolution Festival recently announced details of this years event, revealing that the festival will now take place over two days on the May Bank Holiday weekend of 24th / 25th.
Featuring two key stages, one on each side of the Tyne, it is the first time in the large-scale outdoor event’s history that it will be a weekender.
Evolution Festival Director Jim Mawdsley, of Epic Leisure said: “Going to two days is a great leap forward for Evolution. We have always believed in the steady and strategic development of the event and it was our intention as early as three years ago to work towards a 2-day outdoor event. This year we feel that it is a serious contender in the major festival stakes but due to continued support from Culture 10 we are able to keep the ticket price to at least a quarter of any other festival in the Country”.
Weekend tickets are £15 + the usual booking fees, available from the festival website now.
However, based on ticket sales so far, weekend tickets were expected to sell-out by today (12th March).
Fear not though - Day tickets for the event are available from today and will cost £9.50.
The line-up will feature Dizzee Rascal, The Wombats, Mystery Jets, The View, The Maccabees, White Lies and Friendly Fires alongside Ladyhawke, Boys Noize and a host of other acts and attractions over the two days, with The Human League and Ebony Bones just added to the bill.
Commenting on the line-up, Mawdsley said: ‘'The line up this year is more dynamic than ever, obviously we are under pressure to book twice as many acts but yet again Dave Stone (Evolution booker / programmer) has secured the key names that are tipped for this year. We have been working in music for nearly 50 years between us and we start looking at potential acts more or less as soon as we finish the previous event in May. Some people might even think we know what we are doing.
I am extremely excited by who will be playing on the doorstep of Newcastle Gateshead this year”.
