The organisers of the annual two-day Evolution festival recently announced a first class line-up for the huge outdoor Newcastle / Gateshead event in 2010.
Taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend of 30th and 31st May, the event will feature the cream of the current pop world, including artists such as Enter Shikari, The Horrors, Calvin Harris, Paolo Nutini and Tinchy Stryder appearing on the main stage. The Baltic Square line-up includes acts such as Delphic, Benga and Hadouken!
When asked how he felt about the finalised line-up, Evolution Festival Director Jim Mawdsley told The Gen:
“Really happy with it. The line up is very broad and the addition of the third stage has really opened this up. In terms of highlights for me: De la Soul, Ellie Goulding, Delphic and Donovan. There’s a mix for you!”.
The 3rd stage mentioned by Mawdsley is in fact ‘Ballast Hills’, a new outdoor green site programmed in association with the Jumpin’ Hot Club and will also feature acts such as The Unthanks and Slow Club.
Elaborating, Mawdsley explained: “We are trying to create a softer festival within a festival on a small green field site. That’s it! This year we are offering grass!”
The line-up will also feature some key players from the North East pop scene in the form of The Futureheads, Field Music and Frankie and the Heartstrings.
Speaking about these three acts, Mawdsley said: “They add real excitement to the bill in terms of NE presence and I’m hoping that they are well supported on the day”.
In addition to this, Generator and NARC. magazine are producing an ‘Evolution Emerging’ event taking place on Saturday 29th May and featuring the most exciting up and coming acts from the North East. Check out all of the ‘Evolution Emerging’ information here.
Tickets for Evolution are on-sale now, at £25+ Booking fee for a weekend pass or £17 for a day ticket. For the complete line-up and further information, go to their website.
