Faithless - Pull up to the Bumper

Following in the slip-stream of Tesco's exclusive release of the Faithless album The Dance, the retailer is hoping to pump up the volume of sales with a one month campaign focusing on selling the album from the forecourts of Tesco petrol stations.

Faithless Pull up to the bumper

Tesco secured exclusive rights to The Dance for its release in May when it entered the charts at number two, the first time in UK chart history that an album had scored so highly on the strength of sales from only one physical retailer.

The roll-out of the Faithless CD on to 420 forecourts marks the latest step in Tesco’s plan to increase distribution for entertainment. In February the supermarket introduced music into its Express stores for the first time with its exclusive Simply Red release Songs of Love and follows in the wake of Wal-Mart's unilateral release of The Eagle's 2007 album Long Road Out Of Eden in the States.

As part of the deal there will also be a chance to win a Special Edition Faithless Fiat Punto Evo

Generate Debate: Although this is a guaranteed way to increase visibility and sales for the record label, does the supermarket approach to loss leading help the band? The promotion has annoyed traditional record retailers who feel partially responsible for the development and initial success of the band. Should we feel sorry for them, or is a small shark being eaten by a larger shark evolution?
