North East pop luminaries Maximo Park recently announced details of an exciting remix project in which they are inviting other artists from the North East to rework tracks from their latest album.
Speaking exclusively to The Gen, keyboard player Lukas Wooller said: “We felt that the album (2009’s ‘Quicken the Heart’) was very remixable. The three albums we’ve done so far have been very different but this one was more like dance music, basically”.
As an extension of their recent remix EP ‘Twelve’, the band have devised this region specific project with the intent of exposing the varied musical talent of the region, with the invitation extending to all bands and individuals of any genre based in the North East to get involved.
“We’re looking forward to loads of variety” added Wooller.
“This is a logical extension of the other remixes we’ve had done so far. We know loads of people from the North East who are involved in making music. Maximo Park's music might mean more to people with us coming from the region so we want to keep it personal and emotionally engaging and see how far we can push it”.
They have taken an innovative approach to this by making all of the stems of the tracks available online via Soundcloud.
When asked about the kind of acts that they would like to be involved Wooller said: “I don’t care what style as long as they make interesting music. It could be anything from Jazzfinger (legendary North East experimental noise act) to some four to the floor bangers. It’s very exciting”.
Interested parties need to create their own Soundcloud and then request a track from the LP to remix.
