The 40th Glastonbury Festival took place last weekend and it turned out that the good weather wasn’t the only surprise for those attending the legendary event.
Damon Albarn’s visual pop project Gorillaz headlined Friday night after U2 had to pull out due to Bono’s back problems and they brought a host of guest vocalists with them, including Lou Reed, Snoop Doggy Dogg and Mark E Smith.
Other surprises included members of Radiohead playing an unannounced show at the Park stage, The Edge joining Muse onstage for a rendition of a U2 song and Kylie (pictured) performing a duet with the Scissor Sisters.
Frankie and the Heartstrings also played a secret stripped down acoustic gig to followers of the Guardian Music blog’s Twitter site.
The event ended with festival founder Michael Eavis joining Stevie Wonder for a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ on the Pyramid Stage.
Alongside Frankie and the Heartstrings, a number of North East acts also played the festival, including Field Music and Detroit Social Club.
