HMV step up digital store

Retail giants HMV launched a new and improved digital store this week, with a view to adding heavyweight digital services to its retail and live music empire.

Customers will now have the capacity to pre-order digital download releases and to also re-download tracks they have already paid for if they are lost or destroyed. In addition, tracks can be purchased as gifts and content will be automatically transferred to either Mac or PC media players.

HMV’s head of online and digital Sarah Hughes said: “It offers a truly intuitive and engaging customer experience that I very much hope will lead to HMV becoming a bigger player in the burgeoning digital market”.

The store was built by 7digital, who are 50% owned by HMV and is now a stand-alone site at hmvdigital.com but can also be accessed from their main website.

Generate Debate: Have you checked the site out yet? Is it enough to entice you away from itunes, Amazon MP3 store, eMusic etc..? What do you think of the additional features? Will HMV be successful in establishing dominance in the digital scene, as they have in retail and live sectors through their acquisition of MAMA group?
