Just the ticket?

As the spectre of secondary ticketing continues to spook the live sector, ticket agency WeGotTickets has announced that it recently hit one million users, also helping charities to raise more than £10K in the last year.

The paperless ticket agency teamed up with month-long festival Oxjam to raise over £6,700, with £3556 received in donations made in addition to the ticket price.

Charity ActionAid also raised £3473.37 for Kenyan radio project ‘Muziq Speak’ in a 2011 Christmas appeal through a combination of customer donations and WeGotTickets booking fee donations.

Oxjam Manager Nick Bryer said: “We're so grateful for the money that WeGotTickets and their customers raised for Oxfam last October. It's money that will genuinely change lives around the world. The Oxjam festival is all about using their love of live music to really make a difference”.

WeGotTickets launched ten years ago, pioneering the idea of paperless tickets that has now become an industry standard due to increased awareness about ecological issues and bad publicity focused on the live music industry’s Tyrannosaurus Rex sized carbon footprint on the planet.

Dave Newton at WeGotTickets said: “One million customers and over £10,000 raised for these great charity projects – doing it right and doing the right thing”.

Secondary ticketing agencies continue to be a hot topic, with Channel 4’s dispatches broadcasting a documentary about the subject on this Wednesday.

The laws surrounding touting and so-called secondary ticket agencies have been discussed in Parliament with Shadow Education Minister Sharon Hodgson bringing Private Members Bill ‘Sale of tickets (Sporting and Cultural events)’ to the stage of second reading in the Commons last year with the widespread support of the industry.
