Newcastle based Gen favourites Maximo Park have reportedly completed work on their third studio album, following debut 'A Certain Trigger' (2005) and follow up 'Our Earthly Pleasures' (2007). The third, as yet untitled LP will be released on Warp, expected for the second quarter of 2009 though no firm release dates have been confirmed at time of going of going to press.

Singer Paul Smith recently revealed the good news in a blog post on the band’s Myspace site: "The album is 'in the can', as they used to say... perhaps it would be better to say it's 'on the hard-drive'. At any rate, we're all back in England going about our business."

Producer Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Talking Heads, Kate Bush, PIL) is due to mix the album in L.A. after taking a short break.

The frontman also announced that the band have recently confirmed two headline appearances at festivals in Germany, next August:

• 7th Taubertal Festival
• 8th Open Flair

Smith also added: “There were other songs that would've taken us in a different direction, which we've put aside for the time being because we wanted the album to sound cohesive and to sustain a specific mood (although it's difficult to pin down exactly what that mood is...). It's very upbeat and exuberant, but there's a dark thread running through it”.
