A project launched by the Music Producers Guild is aiming to ensure that each individual involved in the creation of a piece of music will have recognition through data stored in digital formats.
The ‘Credit where Credit is due’ campaign will compile a digital list of all those involved in the process of putting together a piece of music, including producers, photographers, art directors, session musicians and equipment hire companies.
The idea is to compile a central database of all those involved, pooling together information stored by record companies and trade bodies to create a digital equivalent of detailed album sleeve style credits and then ensuring that digital content providers such as Apple include the information in mp3 downloads.
MPG Director Tommy D said in a statement: “As more and more sales become digital, I want to make sure we have one industry database of information that is endorsed by all the main players and covers every aspect of the recording process.”
