The Futureheads, Field Music and Maximo Park singer Paul Smith are amongst the artists who have contributed exclusive tracks to a charity compilation release in aid of the Disaster Emergency Committee’s East Africa Crisis Appeal.
The ‘NExEA’ LP features tracks from a range of North East based musicians including emerging acts such as Young Liar, Lets Buy Happiness and Vinyl Jacket alongside new Bella Union signings Lanterns on the Lake. Proceeds will go directly to the estimated 10 million people currently affected by the drought crisis across East Africa.
Maximo Park main man Paul Smith contributed solo track ‘A Perfect Foil’ and said: “I saw the shocking footage from Eastern Africa on the news like many others will have done and I felt pretty helpless”.
Smith continued: “I’m glad I was approached to contribute something because it’s an amazing cause. I hope my slightly dodgy demo might have enough charm to sit alongside the strong line-up of other North Eastern musicians and encourage people to buy a copy”.
