In a development that could change the live ticketing landscape in the UK, Universal Music owners Vivendi have confirmed that they have won a bid to buy ticketing outlet See Tickets for over £80 million.
A statement released by Vivendi said: “We have acquired the UK ticketing company See Tickets UK for a purchase price of approximately 96 million Euros (£83 million). This acquisition complements the group’s different businesses. It follows the acquisition in December 2010 of French leading on-line ticketing company Digitick.”
The Paris-based company were an outside bet to acquire See from its owners Parcom Capita and reportedly fended off the likes of European ticketing giants CTS Eventim and live promoters AEG. The move means that Universal will now become major players in gig ticketing, as See are the second biggest ticketing operation in the UK with a 20% share of the market in comparison to Ticketmaster’s 40%.
The company sells tickets for Glastonbury, Reading / Leeds and other major UK festivals alongside venues of all capacities, from small grassroots shows to arenas and theatre events.
