As the Official Charts Company (OCC) prepares to celebrate 60 years of hits, they have revealed the top ten biggest selling female artists of all time. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Madonna gets into the groove at Number One, with combined UK singles sales amounting to 17.8 million, including 13 number ones and 59 releases making it into the top ten since 1984.

In 1985, Madonna released ‘Into the Groove’, her first Number One and a song that remains her biggest selling track to date.

Earlier this year, the singer released ‘MDNA’, which topped the Billboard Charts before plummeting 88% after the first week of sales, from 370,000 to 46,000- the second biggest drop in US chart history according to Forbes, as reported in the Huffington Post.

Hot on the stiletto heels of Madonna is Rihanna, who in a few short years has amassed 11.4m in single sales with 3m of those in the last year alone- a figure that jumps to a total of 15.1m if you factor in various collaborations.

Kylie Minogue

The list also includes Kylie Minogue (pictured), who is in at number three with 35 Top Ten hits, seven number ones and total sales of 10.2m including her biggest hit ‘Can’t get you out of my head’.

Lady Gaga also features on the list with over 7m single sales to date, alongside Whitney Houston, Beyonce and Mariah Carey.

To see the complete list, head over to the OCC site and remember- in the immortal words of Hesh Rabkin of The Sopranos- “A hit is a hit”.
