Soundscope has returned for the fourth year running to hook up aspiring songwriters, rappers, lyricists with first rate producers from the region for a mentoring scheme that seeks to explore, encourage and enable new creative talents within urban music.
With Soundscope, Generator actively seeks out people who are seriously committed about their music and their careers. The producers lend their considerable experience to help the students overcome all kinds of difficulties, such as poor confidence, low self-esteem and they also focus on the development of specific writing styles.
These are people who can describe first-hand the challenges and possibilities of music as a career, there is no better place to go to receive relevant support and guidance.
The main aim is to create first class music but this is the end product. There are developments to be made outside of the music alone and the areas approached through the mentorship scheme include:
• Honing vocal delivery
• Considering different styles and methods of delivery
• Listening and examining old and new music
• New melodies, new directions
• Collaboration – instrument work
• How to build a performance
• Basic understanding of production tricks
• Networking – how to get your music heard
Each mentor spends over 3 months working with their student, and the results of the scheme will be showcased in a performance wrapping up these exciting collaborations. Recordings of the tracks they have produced will also be posted up on www.soundscope.org.uk
