Spotlight on: Frankie and the Heartstrings

This month’s Generator spotlight shines on Wearside pop eccentrics Frankie and the Heartstrings.

The band recently played at a Generator Head to Head event at The White Rooms in Sunderland, bringing a sound that evokes a charming Orange Juice meets Jonathan Richman ramshackle jangle, albeit with massive choruses, teddy boy attitude and a timeless essence of tuneful rock n roll.

Frankie and the Heartstrings recently garnered a great deal of praise from legendary DJ, producer and remixer Andrew Weatherall, who played three of their demo tracks on his BBC 6Music radio show and stated to all live promoters out there that he would DJ for free if anyone wanted to put the band on.
