UK Festival Awards: Vote now

Posted in Festivals, Learning Zone, News by Generator on Wednesday 3rd of October 2012

Public voting for the winners of the 2012 UK Festival Awards is now open until October 31.

Frank Ocean, Jake Bugg, Toy and the now ubiquitous Alt J will duke it out with other names for ‘Best breakthrough act’, whilst ‘Best new festival’ will see the likes of the recent Festival No.6 and No Direction Home up against the Radio One Hackney Weekender.

The ‘Best headline performance’ category is especially eclectic, including Dizzee Rascal at Kendal Calling (pictured), Slayer at I’ll be your mirror, Rihanna at Wireless and Elbow at Latitude.

Festival Awards Co-founder Steve Jenner said: “The overwhelming interest we have received from festivals of all shapes and sizes wanting to be involved in the awards and conference this year is an encouraging sign that the market is rallying”.

Over 200 festivals were involved in the nominations, with the top ten shortlists in each category announced on November 5 and winners announced at a ceremony hosted by Phill Jupitus at the Roundhouse, London on December 3.

For the first time this year, the UK Festival Conference will be held in the same venue during the day with keynote speakers and panellists addressing key challenges and opportunities facing the industry.

Particular topics include issues pertinent to this year’s challenging festival season, including dealing with adverse weather alongside building and retaining audience loyalty, especially important now that ‘big dog’ Glastonbury is back on the field next year.

The awards have been running for nine years and you can vote for the various categories here.
