  • Frankie and the Heartstrings are getting together with acclaimed British author David Peace for a special live show in the North East on July 3rd. Peace, whose books include the highly acclaimed ‘Red Riding’ quartet and The Damned Utd will open for the band with a reading at a benefit show for the Easington Miners Welfare.

  • The new Coalition Government have pledged to help out the live music sector by cutting the amount of ‘red tape’ and bureaucracy involved in licensing laws.The Government have now set out their stall on various issues, publishing ‘The Coalition: Our Programme for Government’, outlining various plans for the cultural sector and creative industries alongside other key areas of policy.Referring to the cultural, media and sport sectors the document states:
  • A report from the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) released this week demonstrates that music festival business is booming and defying the economic downturn by contributing more than £1bn each year to the UK economy.The second annual AIF survey questioned nearly 5,000 festival attendees at 13 of its member festivals about spending habits regarding festivals in the UK.
  • Major league North East pop acts such as Maximo Park, Frankie and the Heartstrings, Detroit Social Club and The Futureheads have all been confirmed for Sunderland’s annual Split festival in September this year.
  • Communications regulators Ofcom have outlined plans for how the ‘3 strikes’ rule will be applied to illegal file sharers in the UK.The proposed code of practice will be integrated into the Digital Economy Act, which was passed in Parliament during the wash up period before the general election this year.

  • The highly anticipated Apple iPad device is finally set for a UK launch on May 28th.The iPad was devised to occupy the middle ground between laptops and smart phones. It essentially has similar design features and functionality to the iPhone and iPod touch but is the size of a tablet computer, with an emphasis on users browsing the Internet, consuming music, media and games alongside creating their own content.
