For a number of years now generator has been successful in developing, delivering and fine tuning a number of individual training programmes for music businesses across the North of England. These programmes have all been developed with the knowledge that as small businesses don’t have a great deal of time to devote to training needs we try and not take too much time up with our training.
Along with the Know How seminars and the Music Clinic support offering it is essential for new music business to take advantage of these bespoke training packages in order to fully understand the mechanisms, supply chains and practises of the wider national and international industry.
The training packages come in two formats
Music Business to Music Business (MB2MB)
This ten week (one day a week) course covers the key areas and recent developments within the Music Industry that regional music businesses need to operate within. Along with overviews of the Industry and explanations of how the supply chain links together, it is vital that individual businesses are aware of their position and with which other business, relationships need to be formed, in order to maximise potential revenue streams. Key individual areas that are covered include:
- Music Management
- Record Companies; deals, A&R and legal.
- Publishing Companies; deals, A&R and legal
- Music marketing and Promotions
- DIY and independents
- Digital Distribution
- Physical retail and distribution
- Finance and funding
Generator tends to run 4 of these courses across the region every year. Places are in high demand and preference is always given to those who can demonstrate that they are running a new music business, work for a small north east music business or have made serious strides in the planning process towards starting a business.
To provide continuing back up for these courses we provide each beneficiary with access to our Learning Zone which contains course notes, guidance and advice on how to keep your learning log.
We are currently working with the Creative and Cultural Sector Skills Council and accrediting body EDI to ensure that a Level 3 qualification will be gained on completing this course.
