Generator will be representing the North East’s most exciting new acts at world famous music conference ‘South by South West (SXSW)’ in Texas this month.

Generator CEO Jim Mawdsley said: “Since we received the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) grant, we now feel that we have a real remit and funds to put mechanisms in place to help grow the North East Music industry. Part of this is ensuring that North East businesses make the most of international trade missions”.

This has resulted in Generator putting together a compilation entitled ‘The NEwave’ featuring established leading lights such as Detroit Social Club, The Unthanks, The Chapman Family and Field Music alongside up and coming artists Viva City, Frankie & the Heartstrings, White Belt Yellow Tag, Let’s Buy Happiness and Trafik.

An exclusive Generator ‘Dropcard’ download card is available at the conference and Generator will be focusing on developing stronger ties and opportunities for the artists involved and for North East musicians and music businesses in general.

“Essentially it means we can start putting the music from the North East into an international context and promoting the good work North East music businesses are doing. It also brings attention in general to the region and people need to realize the depth of talent we are all working with”.

Funded by One North East, Generator forms part of the British Music Partnership alongside other core organisations such as UKTI, AIM, PPL and PRS for Music.

SXSW was founded in 1987 and has grown an international reputation as one of the largest and most important global trade conferences in the music industry. Encompassing a wide variety of conferences, workshops, live shows by emerging and undiscovered acts and surprise appearances by more established bands, the main activity is centered around the Convention Centre in downtown Austin, Texas.

The Generator Dropcard is available from The British Stand at the SXSW trade hall and the British Music Embassy in Austin.
