SPEAR:LIVE returns in December featuring Dirty Weekend, Mammal Club and Pretty Hickeys.
SPEAR:LIVE is the events arm of SPEAR, a programme designed to provide support for unsigned artists and music business of the North East, in particular Middlesbrough and surrounding area.
With support from Working Neighbourhoods Fund (Middlesbrough), SPEAR:LIVE will identify the best unsigned artists from the area and plug them into performance opportunities that will be supplemented by the SPEAR:TALK seminars.
It is expected that SPEAR:LIVE will achieve status as one of the most prominent unsigned live music events in the area. Through the learning they will achieve through SPEAR:TALK, the artists will be best positioned to maximise potential.
The bands involved in SPEAR:LIVE will benefit from:
-
The performance experience gained through all events & the different nature of those events
-
New audiences
-
Profile raising opportunities
-
Strategic support for their artist development

Dirty Weekend
"Swooning paranoid indie" NME
Electro-tinged indie from Stockton. With eclectic influences (from Oasis to King Crimson) and intense live shows, it’s no wonder Dirty Weekend have already played Glastonbury and supported the likes of Glasvegas, Happy Mondays and British Sea Power.
Mammal Club
From the ashes of The Eye Jab and Yourcodenameis:Milo comes one of Newcastle’s most exciting bands. Epic, intelligent indie, brimming with ideas and delivered with impassioned honesty.
Pretty Hickeys
Taking the bounce of The Libertines and adding a hint of unruly aggression, Pretty Hickeys are the sound of being young and getting old.
