Maximo Park - Quicken The Heart Remixed

Maxïmo Park are set to release an exclusive version of their last album 'Quicken The Heart' remixed by North East producers through Generator and NARC. magazine.

Copies of the album, which features remixes of nine tracks, will be available for free with July’s issue of NARC and can be streamed and downloaded below.

Lukas from Maximo Park has also recorded an introduction to the project:

The idea behind the album came from keyboard player Lukas Wooller who liked remixes friends had done of their tracks and wanted to open them up to a wider group of people.

Lukas said: “It came from a simple request from a friend asking to remix one of our tracks, purely for their own interest. Our experience of the remix world had been quite negative as it’s usually about getting a ‘name’ on your record to target a different buyer, rather than producing quality music.

“However, when I heard the remix I loved the result and saw how someone with a genuine connection with our music could produce a more musically involving interpretation than someone who had no real connection with us or our records.”

Maxïmo Park then approached Generator to find remixers in the North East who could work on alternate versions of tracks and an appeal was put out in The Gen in January.

This search resulted in more than 30 remixes being submitted and the standard was so high the band decided to work on a physical release which, in the spirit of the open project, was to be distributed free.

Working with Warp Records who released ‘Quicken The Heart’ (Maxïmo Park’s third album) in May 2009, Generator supported with the production of the CD.

Jim Mawdsley, Generator’s Chief Executive, said: “When the band approached us for help finding producers to remix tracks from their latest album we thought it was a fantastic opportunity to get North East producers and remixers involved in an exciting project and to give them experience of working with professional recordings from one of the region’s most successful bands.

“The CD release gives us a chance to spread the work of these producers to a wide audience and to share the variety and quality of talent whilst working with a magazine that supports our region’s music.”

The release coincides with NARC.’s expansion on Teesside, widening their distribution to cover more of the North East.

NARC. is distributed free throughout the region and CDs will be attached to copies of the July issue.

Claire Dupree, Editor of NARC., said: “We're really excited to be able to help Maxïmo Park out with this release. We're big fans of the band and love the way they're showing their support for the local scene.”
