Conferences

Generator has a strong history of showcasing the North East's finest new artists within the region, across the UK, and now internationally.

In May, 2011, Generator's 'A North East Invasion' took over The Great Escape and Liverpool Sound City.  Showcase artists include Lanterns on the Lake, The Chapman Family, Let's Buy Happiness, Cattle & Cane, Mammal Club, Vinyl Jacket and Polarsets.

And this year, every delegate at each conferencing event received 'A North East Invasion' - a limited edition CD compilation featuring the finest tracks from the North East's emerging artists:

Lanterns on the Lake, The Chapman Family, Let's Buy Happiness, Polarsets, Mammal Club, Vinyl Jacket, Cattle and Cane, We Are Knuckle Dragger, Grandfather Birds, Waskerley Way, The Lake Poets, Emily Portman and Viva City.

Detailed information on the CD complilation can be found here.

In 2010, the agency has presented artist showcases and panel events alongside Bristol Music Foundation at The Great Escape. 'Crushing the Great North South Divide' saw Detroit Social Club, The Chapman Family, Nadine Shah and Let's Buy Happiness represent the North East, while a joint Compilation introduced 12 artists from our regions to all industry delegates.

In March 2011, Generator worked alongside Timeless Music Project to invade Austin, Texas at our first SXSW Showcase.  Featuring Little Comets, Viva City, Pulled Apart By Horses, Dinosaur Pile-Up and David Thomas Broughton, our Northern artists took over the British Music Embassy venue - absolutely packed with industry delegates and music fans as part of the Northern Day.  A compilation Dropcard also featured 16 artists from the North East and Yorkshire.

Historically, our showcasing programme included mentorship that built up to key performances at UK showcases such as In the City. Artists that we have taken down to ‘In the City’ in previous years include Maximo Park, The Chapman Family, Dartz, Small Screen Lightshow, the Golden Virgins, Kubichek! and many more. They benefit from the huge numbers of delegates that congregate to discover new music, meet with musicians and make new contacts.
