Northern Film and Media, Generator and Domino Record Co present…

Sound + Vision: 35/45 is an exciting evolution of Sound + Vision and will bring together the North East’s most cutting edge filmmakers and musicians to work with Domino Recording Co – one of the most successful independent record labels in the world and home to artists including Arctic Monkeys, Wild Beasts, Villagers and Franz Ferdinand.
Northern Film & Media, Generator and Domino called out to the region's filmmakers to make a standout film with a concept that will challenge audiences.
On 1 September, 3 emerging North East artists, Symphonic Pictures, Ajimal and Toyger uploaded their tracks (below) to Generator’s website and the region’s filmmakers were given just 2 weeks (with no budget) to download the song of their choice and make a DIY music video.

19 stunning films were submitted to Northern Film & Media’s North East Movies page.
Domino, with the help of Generator and NFM were given the unenviable task of shortlisting 8 videos which were showcased at a live music showcase event along with exclusive acoustic performances from the bands.
Each of the 8 shortlisted filmmakers were also asked to submit a pitch for a music video for Bill Ryder-Jones (sublime minimalist songwriter, formerly in The Coral).
The competition was very tough and audience reaction to all 8 videos was very strong. After much deliberation, Ryan McCann from Domino, with help from NFM and Generator chose the winning filmmakers Pinball Films, to the delight of the team and the packed house.
Their video for Ajimal's track 'Wolf' is below.

The winning filmmaker has been commissioned to make a video for Ryder-Jones' track 'Give Me A Name', with a budget of up to £10k

Toyger are a five-piece math-pop band from Middlesbrough. Formed in March 2010 they have gained a reputation for their inexorable, energetic live shows with the likes of Tall Ships, Brontide and Tellison. 'Karl's Diary' is released on October 24th.

Symphonic Pictures express a colourful mix of psychedelic and slow burning electronic music, Bootstrap Paradox recalls Gruff Ryhs at his most hypnotic with a soft synths, repetitive beat, unruffled vocal and electronic sprinkles. The band list a wide range of influences that cover pop, shoegaze, avant garde, art rock, new wave and cite many experimental songwriters, it's this leftfield mix that is helping Symphonic Pictures to forge their own place in a psychedelic space while maintaining melody and structure that makes them engaging to listen to.

With a name inspired by a Haitian witchdoctor, Ajimal is the new solo project for Fran O’Hanlon. In his own words it is an ‘in-ear-experiment’ with ‘the aim being to write about the way music and medicine and art and ideas and literature and science and stories and hallucinations and everything combine and interplay’. With expressive vocal melodies, singing bowls, serene piano and electric guitar lines creating some serene in-ear delights.
