What takes place in UMT: BEATS?

UMT:BEATS runs the Arts Award which is a national qualification that supports young people to develop as artists; young people can achieve Arts Awards at levels 1, 2 and 3 on the national qualifications framework.

UMT:BEATS will have two different strands:-

UMT:BEATS

UMT:BEATS Advanced

With UMT:BEATS, young people will focus on developing original composition using music technology and software – the young people learn about editing, sequencing, sampling and recording vocals. They each create and record their own tracks and are also responsible for producing their own club-event at the end of each course.

Specific production skills the young people will develop include:-

Musical and production skills: Beat-matching / Beat juggling / Turntablism / CD mixing / FX, editing, sequencing and sampling / Recording Vocals / Music Production skills / Performance skills / Digital Technology

UMT:BEATS Advanced is a higher level of support for producers who have already amassed a certain level of experience; very limited spaces will be made available for this producer development scheme and participants will be supported towards track release and carving a profile as a professional working producer.
