Get the opportunity to take part in a week-long intensive course of expert music training (instrumental, vocal, percussion, music technology and stage-craft), leading to professional standard recordings and performances.

 

 

It offers a wide range of musical and vocal tuition, alongside music production sessions that encourage collaborative work between the different groups of young people.

UMT:PLAY combines new forms of music with existing, more traditional styles and delivers training specifically tailored to strengthen abilities and create new skills in emerging new music.

Either as individuals or as part of a group, you will be responsible for producing an event in one of the region's finest venues, where you will showcase your new material.

UMT:PLAY is interested in what happens when different types of music are integrated and the tuition and guidance encourages this central collaboration.

Participants will be encouraged to explore elements of music that define the differences between styles and those that provide common ground between them.

Participants are led by a music leader, tutor and trainee, and share responsibilities for producing the events which will take place at the end of each of these 4 weeks.

While these weeks will involve learning and hard working, it is also a place where young people can simply enjoy themselves. UMT bands will also demonstrate that the music industry is a multi-faceted business, not just a environment of ‘stars’ and passing fads, but a place where all different types of skills are welcome and usable.

Young people from Newcastle aged 11-24 (depending on the course) who have an interest in music.
