UMT: ROOTS steering group

Generator believes in meaningful participation – we understand that is about listening to children and young people and enabling their views and experiences to influence change. The ROOTS steering group was set-up as a result of the young people’s expressed wishes following their involvement in previous Generator projects and it is their ideas that formed the basis of UMT.

Generator is responsible for ensuring that their views influence real change as we understand that listening is only half the story – acting on what they tell the agency is what will make their involvement meaningful.

Generator has encouraged the group to make autonomous decisions about UMT and they will meet quarterly to ensure their choices continue to form the backbone of this programme. Generator is interested in hearing from young people aged 16-24 who may be interested in joining the ROOTS steering group.

Please contact joe@generator.org.uk for more information.

The ROOTS steering group will be responsible for:

  • Assistance in recruitment and selection: - for those who work on UMT project delivery specifically

  • Developing and implementing training programme

  • Facilitating meetings/surveys/communication systems to decide on exact programme content, with guidance from coordination team

  • Developing marketing plan, creating ideas for publicity with appointed graphic designer

  • Ongoing assessment of programme, communication procedures and interactions between programme participants and between participants and workers

  • Developing plans for sustainability; the young people will be integral to reviewing the project as it progresses, collecting data and feedback that they will then share with similar initiatives so as to potentially influence the way future programmes develop.
