Hand-picked by a panel of experts from the North East and Cumbrian music scene, these are the six bands who will spearhead Generator's assault on In The City 2004. SPEARHEAD IN THE CITY 2004 takes place on Sunday 19 September at Manchester's Night and Day Café, in the heart of the conference which attracts delegates from every music organisation worth its salt in the UK.
Part of the expanding Spearhead scheme which attracts generous funding from the Northern Rock Foundation and Orange, the six acts were selected by an independent panel from open submissions on the strength of their demo CD and track record of performance over the last 12 months. Everything from classic pop, heavy rock, solo singer-songwriters and experimental guitar music is represented in the showcase and accompanying CD, which we're sure you'll agree is a perfect advert for the vibrancy of our region's music.
3 HOURS WASTED... (pic left) certainly don't hang about: their seventh ever gig saw them support Brighton hellraisers 80s Matchbox B-Line Disaster at Newcastle University, and they gave new guitarist Chris Davies a full 24 hours to settle into the job before his first live show with the band. This relentless approach has paid dividends for the Newcastle lads: over their 40 gigs this year alone they've played in front of curious Sony, Parlophone and Captains of Industry reps, not to mention magazine launch parties, label showcases and a charity show in an Edinburgh church. With a third self-financed EP 'Here I Am' on the shelves and an album in the pipeline, maybe 'No Hours Wasted' would be a more appropriate moniker for these workaholics...
