History has recorded countless bands that have been formed on a foundation of familial relations, and as time has shown these relations can result in an intensity that can sadly lead to many bands imploding. However should this intensity be harnessed, it seems the presence of siblings can galvanise a sound that rises above the rest. Perhaps it’s an essence of rivalry, or an inherent feeling of trust, however Teesside post-punk four piece Eeves fills this category superbly.
Coming together sometime in 2010, Eeves consist of Peter McDonald and brothers Stephen, Andrew, and Thomas Masterman. Arced around this trio of brothers, the band have already gained the attention of the esteemed music hero of the north, Tom Robinson, with airplay on his BBC 6Music show, along with the 'Record of the Week' accolade at Amazing Radio and a plethora of glowing reviews from several local publications.
‘So Long Hurricane’ is the band’s latest effort, and is due to be released as part of an EP with 'Eyes Closed', possibly providing an escape for anyone not enjoying the cacophony of inevitable ballads. On first play the track resonates with sounds pioneered by the likes of Weezer, Feeder, and Fountains of Wayne. Jaunty guitar hooks are matched by emphatic punches of percussion, led along a thread of vocals laced with an endearing level of grunge. With an impending sense of urgency, Eeves have produced a sound that will instantly appeal to many and linger infectiously in the minds of all that happen to be listening.
