THE NATURALS

Song Title:
FINISHING MOVES

Words by Linsey Teggert

For most people who play in bands, or anyone who has ever picked up an instrument and dabbled in noise-making, it’s more than likely that their teenage years were spent in various bands, with terrible names, making questionable music. Bristol four piece The Naturals formed way back in 2004 before they were even in their teens, and spent their formative years honing their art. It’s a good job they didn’t become jaded, as The Naturals of 2012 are a distinguished post-rock band who’s future looks incredibly promising, having already supported the likes of The Joy Formidable, Mono, This Will Destroy You and Johnny Foreigner, and are about to play a handful of dates with North East noise-mongers The Chapman Family.

What is most impressive about The Naturals is the intricate texture of their sound, which in their most recent track 'Finishing Moves' ranges from swathes of shoegaze-esque sonics to hushed guitar interplay. 'Finishing Moves' opens with delicate post-rock guitar plucking which paves the way for a dramatic, almost monasterial vocal. The track’s strength lies in its ability to blend the quietly beautiful with the crushing to create a wonderful sensory overload, yet remaining graceful and controlled.
