Sun Drums are attached to Manchester label Everybody’s Stalking, which might be familiar to some North-Easterners as the home of our very own taut melodic geniuses Mammal Club. A shared label is absolutely where the similarities between the two stop though. The balmy, hazy electronic brood of Sun Drums sounds like a more downbeat Caribou, and the result is utterly, utterly gorgeous. It’s massively summery, but in the sense that it evokes the feeling of lazing by a pool swathed in humidity, rather than making you feel like dancing around on a beach in a Hawaiian shirt.
The Liverpool trio released their self-titled EP digitally at the tail end of 2011, before it came out on 12” earlier this year. The band play Liverpool Sound City in May, but before that they will play with Sun Glitters and cult duo Ghosting Season at Leaf in the same city later this month.
