From Tees Valley to Hertford: Sonic Futures Artists Step Into the Spotlight
This February, Generator’s Sonic Futures programme is taking part in an exciting Regional Showcase Series in partnership with the Hertford Quarter - a community-focused initiative led by acclaimed artist George Ezra and his sister Jess. The collaboration will see two standout Tees Valley artists travel down south for an immersive week of studio development, ending with them joining Teesside’s own three time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winning trio The Young’uns for a spotlight showcase.
Singer-songwriters Amelia Coburn and Jodie Nicholson - two artists known for their distinctive voices and compelling songwriting - will represent Tees Valley, and cross the week of 24–27 February, they will spend dedicated time developing new material at Quebec Hotel Studios, working alongside George and his creative team in a collaborative environment designed to nurture artistic growth.
The experience will then lead into a showcase event on 28 February, where Hertford Quarter presents the latest edition of its Regional Showcase Series. The evening will spotlight Amelia and Jodie as they bring a taste of the Tees Valley’s thriving music culture to a new audience.
Amelia Coburn is a singer-songwriter recognised for her unique talent for world-building, crafting evocative songs with a transportive quality. Jodie Nicholson, meanwhile, is celebrated for her tactile, intimate, and emotionally honest songs. Together, they represent the breadth and creativity emerging from the Tees Valley music scene.
For Generator’s Sonic Futures programme, the opportunity extends far beyond a single performance. It provides meaningful time, opportunity and space for artistic development, professional collaboration, and exposure to audiences outside their home region.
Ste, Sonic Futures Programme Manager, explains:
“This sort of opportunity is invaluable for artists from our region. Playing shows and making connections outside of the region is a big part of an artist’s journey for sure, but having the opportunity to write and record together in a world class recording studio with a new producer will be an invaluable experience."
The partnership highlights the power of cross-regional collaboration in supporting emerging talent, creating pathways for artists to expand their reach while strengthening the cultural exchange between scenes.
As Sonic Futures continues to champion Tees Valley artists, initiatives like this reinforce Generator’s commitment to providing real-world opportunities that accelerate development, confidence, and creative ambition.
